Many poker fans think that playing poker for a living is a cool way to live, like in the movie Rounders or any of the other movies about the life of a poker player. But the truth is playing poker or any casino game for a living is a very difficult life. Unlike a 9 to 5 job you can go weeks without winning any money, and the more you try to win the less money you have. Here are just some of the ways a professional poker player can earn money.

Advertising:
Once you reach a certain level of popularity and success different companies may want to pay you to wear their name on your shirt or hat when you are Gambling in a casino or in a televised Tournament. This is the closest thing to a steady paycheck a professional gambler. It has become a new fade to wear "poker Shirts" they are shirts with the names of poker sponsors on them. Players wear them to make themselves look like the professionals. You can always recognize the fakes; they are usually sitting around the tables with the lowest max bet and usually only bet the table minimum.

Tournaments:
To really be known as a professional gambler you are going to need to win a tournament or two. This is where a professional players makes the money he needs to travel around gambling all year long. If a pro poker player can win one big million dollar tournament a year. It is more then enough to travel around and to pay for the entrance fees to many of the world series of poker qualifying tournaments all over the country.

Work:
For the professional Poker player going to work means sitting in an online poker room or in a casino at the poker table. For those of you, who may be thinking the playing poker for a living would be a great way to spend your day, try to remember that at your office you show up in the morning and go home 8 or 9 hours latter and you get paid for the day. When you are a professional poker player if you are not winning not only are you not making money at work you are losing money. The hours of a professional poker player are often long and hard. Most casinos are open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week and the professionals have to sit and play every day until they win or give up and get a regular job.

Specialty:
Even though most professional gamblers play poker does not mean that to be a professional gambler you have to be a poker player. If you are good enough you can make a living from playing any casino game like Blackjack or Craps, there are even people who make a living Betting on Horses and Sports Betting, but professional gamblers are usually casino game players just because Poker and Blackjack are games of skills and betting on a football game is just luck.

Several of the world's most successful gamblers have written books filled with the knowledge they have learned over their years of playing to help others who want to take the time to really learn to gamble.

Professional gambling is not an easy way to make a living and very few people can truly make the claim to only survive on money earned from gambling.
